Wood & Jones was founded in 1907 in Pasadena, California by Bert Wood, and Fred Jones, locating at 139 West Colorado Street by 1911, and Bert’s son, Richard Wood, having introduced offset lithography to the firm in the 1940’s, operated the business in partnership with Bert’s nephew, David Wood into the late 1980’s, and Richard’s son, Chris Wood joined the firm in the 1970’s, and Richard’s daughter, Hanna Wood assumed responsibility for the business in 1987.

Emer Bates publisher of the Pasadena Independent Newspaper and Len Jasmin, manager who instituted offset lithography in its commercial printing division in the 1940’s, when the newspaper was sold, relocated Typecraft to 120 West Union Street becoming neighbors with Wood & Jones in 1957, and Harry Montgomery, Emer Bates’ son-in-law joined Typecraft in 1960, becoming partners with Len Jasmin in 1963.

JJ Gish became plant manager at Wood & Jones, purchasing W&J in 1994 and Login Printing in 1998, whose father Jerry Gish was plant manager and 50-year Typecraft employee, became partners with Harry Montgomery in 2000 thereby merging Typecraft and Wood & Jones into one firm located at 2040 East Walnut Street.

Both Typecraft and Wood & Jones separately and together have kept abreast of the latest technologies and thereby created quality printed materials for the promotion and enhancement of businesses, non-profit organizations, schools, universities, museums, and fine art institutions.

Typecraft Wood & Jones will continue its contribution to the growth and development of commerce and culture throughout Pasadena, Southern California and beyond.
