double splits

we ran a challenging poster the other day, but it went pretty smoothly.
it is for the usc roski school of fine art, designed by gail swnalund
and jon sueda of stripe.

the idea was to to do a split fountain, which is no problem. you put in
two ink colours to one fountain, using this doorstopper looking
doodad to separate the two colors of ink; magenta and 123 in this case.

then the art for the job comes in and it is a double split! "i want it
to go here and then change here again," twice in one fountain, giving us
a total of three colors in the space of one ink fountain... argh,
designers!

jon, gail’s partner says “you did what to them on the ink? that won’t
work, you can’t do that.” gail replies "david said it will probably
work" so we're gonna try it...
