Typecraft Wood & Jones is a full service commercial sheetfed printer with over 100 years of service in Pasadena, California. We specialize in high quality printing at competitive prices with the efficient service demanded by today's sophisticated designers and print buyers.

Typecraft has a full digital workflow environment featuring the latest in Kodak Computer to Plate technology (CTP).

Our workflow features complete preflight workstations to accept and review incoming digital files, adjusting them for smooth running and uploading them to our system.

Our application workstations are equipped with all the current versions of QuarkXPress, PageMaker, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign and Freehand.

We utilize the Kodak/Heidelberg/Adobe Prinergy PDF workflow to process and proof files for CTP.

We run matchprints via our Trendsetter Spectrum. We utilize the Epson 9600 Stylus Pro for interim proofing and full color HP DesignJet 2000CP for position proofs.

Our system sports high capacity RAID storage and an Archtype OPI server to allow clients to keep high resolution images online at Typecraft and work with low resolution FPOs in their design projects.

CTP eliminates film and stripping. Kodak's invention of thermal film and plates makes this breakthrough technology possible. The final printed product is sharper, and overall higher quality.

Newest to our pressroom is Heidelberg's CPC 21, a computer driven Spectrophotometer that reads the color bars on an Ok'd press sheet and compares it to subsequent sheets. Any variation can be corrected with a touch of a button. Designed for use on longer runs, it’s a final quality control of color variation.

The Heidelberg Tango vertical drum scanner enlarges 3,000% and has 11,000 dpi resolution. It's Linocolor 6.0 software assures consistently top - quality scans.

Our Topaz 2 Flatbed scanner is a versatile machine. A special tray holds 32 35mm slides. It automates the handling but retains the quality of an individual scan.

In the Pressroom

Heidelberg Printmaster QM46 is our new short run 2 color press. This 10,000 an hour press also has Autoplate and many automated features. Just right for stationery, forms and other small sheet work up to 13 x 18.

A brand new state of the art 28 x 40 Heidelberg. Six colors plus inline Aqueous coating. A chiller maintains even temperature in the ink train for a consistent ink tack. The extended delivery and U.V dryers set the ink on the sheet. Dozens of nozzles direct streams of air on the sheet to prevent marking as it travels through the press. 15,000 per hour speeds are the results of this engineering.

Make ready time is cut way down with these two inventions:

Autoplate: All plates automatically mounted and locked in perfect register.

CIP 3: As the plates are made a flash card is created which sets all the ink fountains for that job. We sometimes get an OK on the first press sheet.
